Martin Bariton Steelstring J28LSE - played by Andreas Schulz

Описание к видео Martin Bariton Steelstring J28LSE - played by Andreas Schulz

As some of you guys (and gals) might know, i also work as editor of the german magazine AKUSTIK GITARRE. A great job since i have the chance to play and check out lots of different instruments. In issue 1-2012 we reviewed the Martin J28LSE, a baritone steelstring guitar.

Seems that i have a special relation to baritones. Just love the deep low end of those instruments. Baritone steelstrings open up a whole new dimension and are great for fingerstyle work and comping. Many singers like the sound, because it lays a strong foundation underneath the voice (or any other lead instrument). The standard baritone tuning is B-E-A-D-F#-B; you might try to lower it for another whole step to A-D-G-C-E-A. Additionally you can use all open tunings you are aware of, like a baritone version of Drop-D (A-E-A-D-F#-B) or a Baritone-DADGAD which is A-E-A-D-E-A.

Martins Jumbo-Baritone was fun to play. As you might notice i tend to play slower stuff on those baritones. In this clip i play a duo song, a ballad and some short examples of low string chords and easy strummings to demonstrate the sound of this instrument.
