Many of us use the train to travel.
When compared to buses and airplanes, the train is more comfortable in carrying heavy things.
In the flight they have limitations for luggage. Even on the bus.
But on the train you carry large amounts of luggage with you.
Mostly people carry personal things and business products.
Until now, only commercial goods were charged extra.
But now, Indian Railways is planning a new rule.
All passengers will have limits on how much luggage they can carry, just like on flights.
If someone carries more than the allowed weight, they will have to pay extra.
To make this work, electronic weighing machines will be placed at the entrance of all railway stations.
Passengers must weigh their luggage before entering the platform.
Only after the luggage is weighed will they be allowed inside.
Under this new rule, passengers without reserved tickets (who travel in general compartments) can carry up to 35 kg of luggage for free.
People with reserved tickets have extra kg that can be taken.
For example, Sleeper class: 40 kg, AC 3-tier: 50 kg, AC 2-tier: 60 kg and First class: 70 kg.
All train coaches will soon have special space to keep luggage safely.
Also, just like ticket checks happen inside running trains, train staff will check luggage weight randomly during travel.
If someone carries too much without paying, they may be fined.
This new system is first being tested at Prayagraj railway station in Uttar Pradesh.
After checking how it works and fixing any problems, it will be started at stations across India.
The Railway Department believes that these changes will help increase income and also improve passenger experience.
