Join us online for an SFAA Spotlight with Anthony Aziz (MFA 1990) & Sammy Cucher (MFA 1992) in conversation with Kathy Brew on Feb 4.
Aziz + Cucher have been working collaboratively since the early 1990s, creating photographs, videos, textiles, and immersive installations that probe the body, technology, ecology, and the politics of representation. In this live online conversation, they will talk with filmmaker, curator, and educator Kathy Brew about their enduring collaboration, recent projects, and the ways their work responds to our current moment.

This online program will include:

A conversation between Anthony Aziz, Sammy Cucher, and Kathy Brew
A look at selected works from different periods of Aziz + Cucher’s practice

Aziz + Cucher (Anthony Aziz MFA 1990 & Sammy Cucher MFA 1992)
Aziz + Cucher are a pioneering artist duo whose collaborative practice since the early 1990s has explored the shifting terrain between the human body, technology, politics, and contemporary image culture. Working across photography, digital media, video, textiles, and large-scale immersive installations, their work investigates how technology mediates identity, perception, and our relationship to the world.

Their projects have been exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Venice Biennale, MASS MoCA, the New Museum, SF MoMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Australia, the Photographers´ Gallery in London, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Widely recognized as early innovators in digital photography, Aziz + Cucher continue to expand their interdisciplinary practice after their recent move to Madrid, where they now live and work.



Kathy Brew
Kathy Brew is a filmmaker, artist, curator, educator, and writer whose work spans independent documentary film, media arts, and cultural programming. Her award-winning films have been featured at festivals and museums internationally, and she has held curatorial and programming roles at MoMA, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the American Museum of Natural History, WNET-TV, and years earlier at Capp Street Project in San Francisco. Brew has taught at The New School, SVA, NYU's ITP program, and Rutgers' Mason Gross School of the Arts. She is an honorary alum of SFAI, having worked there twice, first as Director of PR & Publications, 1984-85 and then as Humanities Department Manager under Ray Mondini, 1990-1991. Most recently, she has contributed to the monthly SFAA website/newsletter, featuring many others involved in the past with SFAI -- Karen Finley, Mark Durant, Sharon Grace, Linda Montano, Kathy Acker Larry Andrew, and Jeffrey Henson Scales.
