Tour des Fiz. Two stunning days in the Mont-Blanc region

The Tour des Fiz is a beautiful 2-4 day hike starting in either the Passy-Mont Blanc side or the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval side (where we started).

The weather forecast showed extreme weather warnings for high temperatures. This was my chance to test out my new 20€ tarp from China. My normal 4kg backpack was down to 3kg, so naturally I filled it up with a drone and batteries. I ended up not using the drone much at all...

We encountered ferocious guardian shepherd dogs (Patou - google them) who took a mean liking to me (and we read in the local papers about a Patou killing a hiker nearby that same day 😢), we saw wolf signs - dead sheep - (and later read in the local paper about wolf attacks on that very mountain 😳), we saw the most spectacular sunset, an insane storm that just missed us, high temperatures (my thermometer read 46°C during our second day's climb 🥵) and some of the most incredibly beautiful scenery in this region.

We passed two of my daughter's favourite refuges - Refuge du Sales and Refuge Alfred Wills. We passed stunning waterfalls. We topped a mountain peak for dinner and descended just in time to set up camp for the sunset. We climbed the fun Passage du Dérochoir with it's ladders and ropes.

All in all, it was an excellent hike.
