Life too short for long YouTube videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.

In this video we take an overview of cabinets and speakers for guitar amps. Truth be told, we’ve been reluctant to get into this on TPS… because there areso many variables to the point that most comparisons end up being almost entirely academic, and are therefore not tremendously helpful.
Variables include your amp, guitar, gain type, pedals, strings etc etc etc… even before we get into the bigger stuff like the volume you’re playing at, the room, its acoustics in terms of size, shape and materials and of course mic’ing and recording choices.
Should we all strip it back to a ‘lab’ style environment and do some scientific comparisons? We think it's largely pointless, and has nothing to do with how you will experience – hearing and feeling – the speaker.
Then why do this video at all? Despite what we've said above there remains no doubt your cab and speaker will radically change the sound of your amp. So what we’re trying to do as always is to help you ask better questions that suit your own personal circumstances and preferences.
We expect this video to spark a tremendous number of questions and requests for follow-up speaker shows… so let’s have them!

A NOTE ON HOW WE RECORDED THESE SPEAKERS & CABS
• Amp controls set exactly the same when comparing cabs
• Sennheiser e906 placed in the same place on each speaker in terms of position and distance
• Mic preamps and levels set exactly the same
• Our room mics – a pair of AKG C414XL – are set higher in the mix than we would normally set them (3 or 4 dB - nothing drastic) so that you get a slightly improved sense of the room as well. It’s a long way from reality, but it is what it is!
