Wilson Disease is very common in Children and adults. It is a common cause of chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. If diagnosed at an early stage, medical treatment is possible and there are very good medicines available to treat it. Otherwise it leads to cirrhosis requiring liver transplant.

Its symptoms are jaundice, loss of appetite, tiredness, hemolytic anemia, weight loss. Many of these symptoms are seen in other chronic liver disease and its very important to keep a high index of suspicion to diagnose this disease.

This disease is diagnosed with some blood tests like liver function tests, Serum ceruloplasmin, 24 hours urine copper and eye examination.

There are good medicines like penicillamine, trientine and zinc which can halt the disease progression and are very effective in this disease.
