The Tudor era today is remembered for a brutal king, a bloody queen, another queen whom changed the face-off culture and a hell of a lot of death and executions. But if we look past the obvious, there is also a lot of abuse hidden within the history records and sadly, back in the 16th century, the treatment young girls received was seen as the norm, and most saw nothing wrong with it. Modern day standards must be applied to the past, not to change it, or to try and rewrite it, but so that we, the future generations can learn from the mistakes of our predecessors, and ensure that they are never made again.

Catherine Howard is remembered today mostly for her death. She was still just a girl, thought to have been as young as 17 years old when she walked up the steps to the straw covered scaffold on tower green to face the axe man. But Catherines ordeal started when she was just 10 or potentially 12 years of age. With the death of her mother, Catherine was sent to live with her step grandmother, Agnes Tilney, the dowager duchess of Norfolk, and it was here, in the home of her supposed guardian that Catherine was exposed to an environment that would prove to have devastating consequences in the not so distance future.
