🛢 Does Vaseline clog your pores? This is one of my most frequently seen comments anytime I post a slugging video! Vaseline is non-comedogenic which means it does not clog or block your pores. It actually forms a protective barrier over your skin to prevent water in your skin from evaporating, also known as transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and why your skin gets dry. This is also why slugging is so popular and effective for many.

Of course, the caveat is if you have acne causing bacteria or oil on your face and apply Vaseline over it, chances are you will break out since the Vaseline will lock it in. So if you’re curious about Vaseline, you can always do a small patch test on your face or neck to get a sense of how your skin will react.

Vaseline is a great tool to have in your skincare kit and I love using it whenever my barrier is starting to feel compromised. I remember when an old coworker on the skincare team was dealing with a lot of skin allergies - she was advised to stop using her normal skincare regimen and only to use Vaseline. And I was shocked to see her skin looked even more amazing than usual!

If slugging with Vaseline isn’t possible for you, but you still want the effects of slugging, you can always use a product like a sleeping mask or balmier moisturizer for your final step to get similar effects. Sleeping masks typically have one to a few occlusive ingredients since their function is to lock in moisture.
