בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית | In the Beginning God... (Bereshit)

בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃


"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." This is Genesis 1:1 from the Hebrew Scriptures (the Bible, as it's known in most places). Genesis 1 tells of the creative acts of God in the very beginning of the universe.


However, if we look at sources from other cultures, we can see that a similar story emerges time after time again. What exactly do these sources point us to? In this video I take a look at some other mythologies and see how they can combine to give us a picture of what the ancients thought of creation. In the end, I try to recombine the stories (in light of the Bible) and guess at what an early oral tradition may have sounded like. Let's go on this journey!
