The first session on day 4 will be remembered as Abbas's day out under the sun. He just cast a spell with his metronomically bowling and got the batter to edge it frequently. If they weren't edging it he attacked the sticks and got them out. It all started with Markram's wicket who was bowled off a peach. SA lost four more after that and five in the first session.

Four of them belonged to Abbas. Bavuma tried to counter-attack but failed as he walked off caught behind despite the UltraEdge showing nothing. Just hasn't been SA's day. Still 32 needed the pitch has just enough for the bowlers and Pakistan only need two wickets to take a 1-0 lead against SA. SA need this win to book a ticket for the WTC final.

But will it remain elusive? They managed to get a healthy lead of 90 courtesy the valour showed by Bosch. Pakistan started off on an aggressive note before losing their way a bit. They are still 2 adrift and have 7 wickets in hand. Day 3 is a moving day and we might have some tectonic shifts as this game has been fast paced.

The Boxing Day was action packed with as many as 13 wickets falling on the first day of the Centurion Test. Having been asked to bat first Pakistan were bundled out for 211 with a mix of good bowling and some shocking batting. Dane Paterson took 5 wickets while debutante Corbin Bosch helped himself to 4.

Khurram Shahzad then struck twice with the new ball and Mohammad Abbas then added a late wicket to keep the visitors in the hunt. Aiden Markram has looked sublime though better batting conditions are expected today and South Africa will look to push ahead. It's the Boxing Day Test and it's carnival time at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

South Africa have been in the middle of some excellent results in Test cricket and they're just one more win from becoming the first team to book a place in next year's WTC final at Lord's. But they'll be tested by a feisty Pakistan team whose confidence must be sky high after registering a superb 3-0 series win in the recently concluded ODIs.

Both teams have named their playing XIs - a couple of injuries and a couple of players short of match fitness has meant that the hosts are going with an all-pace attack so too are Pakistan and that doesn't come as a surprise. We're at the Highveld and spin rarely comes into play anyway. The forecast is for some rain during the course of the Test but we should get a largely uninterrupted passage of play today. Pakistan tour of South Africa 2024 -25.

Temba Bavuma - We will bowl first. Bit of a tricky decision to make the overhead conditions and what we expect the next two days took priority. The wicket looks hard divots shouldn't come into play with the forecast. Every series is important but this is a bit more. The focus on playing good cricket we do have injuries but Corbin Bosch comes in we're backing our guys. We've had success seamers here doesn't favour spin to be honest. Playing in the ideal South African conditions.

Shan Masood - There will be a lot for the seamers but you get a lot of value for shots play the conditions well and we're looking forward to it. We played some good cricket in similar conditions in Australia but we didn't finish it off. We're very excited about playing here they're on the cusp of getting into the WTC final so it's a good test for us. We have 7 batters and 4 bowlers typical selection for us.
