The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences was founded in 1978 as South East Asia’s first international gemological education facility. The school was founded in order to provide professional training for those who were looking to expand their opportunities within the gem and jewelry industry, as well as increase the general public's knowledge and appreciation of gemstones. Today, AIGS has become a world recognized international gemological school, where many students from all over the world come together to learn and forge relationships that will last throughout their careers.

No matter what the field of endeavor, the truth is best attained at the source from first-hand experience. Throughout history, Asia has been regarded as the source of the world’s finest gemstones and AIGS's location within "The Gemstone Capital of the World" is an ideal setting for immersing oneself within the industry. Whether its the mining of rough gems at Phrae or Kanchanaburi, or the processing of material at Chanthaburi or Bangkok, every facet of the gem and jewelry industry can be encountered within Thailand's borders. Furthermore, AIGS students do not only learn about gemstone mining, processing, identification, grading and pricing within a classroom environment, but are provided with opportunities to travel and observe these elements first-hand in such locations as Mogok, Colombo and Yangon.

The study of gemology is a fascinating undertaking that is ever-changing and challenging, but never tedious.
