A fire in the Intensive Care Unit of Jaipur's Swai Mansingh Hospital has killed seven patients. The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, occurred on Sunday night in the hospital's Trauma Centre. Following the tragedy, families have alleged that hospital staff fled the scene, leaving patients behind. One relative stated, "My nephew called me and said, 'Uncle, there's been a fire and all the staff is running away.' 'There's a lot of smoke inside and all the staff is running away, leaving our patients behind.'" The report from India Today describes the incident as possible "criminal negligence." Grieving families are now holding a protest at the hospital, demanding accountability from the administration. Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences for the loss of lives.
