FOSA webinar Fiber Optic Sensing in Power Transmission - NKT Photonics

Описание к видео FOSA webinar Fiber Optic Sensing in Power Transmission - NKT Photonics

This webinar gives an introduction to NKT Photonics, a company with 40 years of history in photonics, and in manufacturing fiber optic sensing systems for almost 25 years. Then, it presents fundamentals, technologies, capabilities and advantages of fiber optic sensing technologies. The main part of the webinar deals with applications of distributed temperature, strain and acoustic sensing in power transmission. Temperature monitoring is mainly used for power cables, but also for other components of the transmission path like overhead and gas insulated lines or transformers. Dedicated software solutions are required for using temperature information for cable ampacity rating and depth of burial analyses. Strain sensing is used for monitoring tension, bending or torsion during the whole lifecycle of a power cable. Acoustic sensing detects and localizes unwanted activities like digging, excavation, horizontal drilling or anchoring in the vicinity of transmission lines as well as electric faults. Presented by Dr. Wieland Hill, Director of Advanced Sensing Systems, NKT Photonics.

Dr. Wieland Hill has long-term experience as an academic researcher, industrial developer and technical manager in lasers, micro-optics and fiber-optic sensing. Since 2007, he was the CTO of LIOS Technology, Cologne, which is since 2018 the German subsidiary of NKT Photonics. His current activities are focused on distributed temperature, strain and acoustic sensing as well as thermal rating of power cables. He is a member of the Technical Committee of FOSA.
