I started working on this small elm a couple of years ago. This is the second repotting, root, and trunk work. It has gotten a little larger, and grown finer roots to work with. I do some big cuts on the branches and will wire the remaining and new branches that emerge this summer. This will develop the core branch structure of the tree. At this stage the tree does not look like a finished bonsai so it can be challenging to see the final version. The great thing about elms is they are fast growers. In just 3-4 years this will be a cute, little, fat elm, with some character!
