So what is OCR? OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition and is a technology that turns a picture or scan of something containing text into actual digital text. From this data, information can be extracted and processed for all kinds of purposes. This process, from image, to text, to data points, and potential verification options, is known as Intelligent Document Processing, or IDP, and this is what Klippa is an expert in.

OCR works by transforming each shape into a closed matching letter. The data extraction can be done in multiple ways; either by using templates, or the Klippa way by using AI. The benefit of AI is that data can be extracted regardless of where it is located on the document.

There are many different use cases for OCR software, for example expense management, invoice processing, but also in KYC processes, VAT reclaims, identity verification, scanning licence plates, and so on.
Pretty much anywhere you now manually go through documents or images with text to filter out information, OCR can help automate the process.

OCR works for all languages and can be used for any type of document or image containing text. However, there are differences between providers in which languages and document types they support and are specialised in.

To get started with OCR, it’s essential to first find the right business case. Then, it’s a good idea to look at which requirements are important to you and look at how well different providers fit your needs. If you have a shortlist of candidates, it’s a good idea to get to know them a bit better via a demo. Check out https://link.klippa.com/faqdemo if you want to book a demo with Klippa.
