HOW TO: Winter Wood Deck Cleaning

Sometimes, my go-to method of deck cleaning (   • HOW TO: Cleaning a Deck with Oxygen B...  ) isn't the best choice. For example, when cleaning in cold weather, oxygen bleach doesn't work so well.

In this video, I show a quick and cheap method of making a solution of sodium hydroxide for use in cleaning grimy wooden decks in cold weather.

Do your homework and unstained the chemical well BEFORE you use it. Sodium hydroxide can be very dangerous!

Yes, after cleaning a wooden deck with sodium hydroxide, it's a fine idea to treat it all with oxalic acid to brighten the wood. I illustrate that here:    • Using Oxalic Acid to Brighten a Deck  

This video here is a basic HOW TO... sort of like "Deck Cleaning 102." As any professional exterior cleaner or deck restorer knows, much more can be said and done about cleaning a wood deck, but I hope this video answers the most basic questions.
