How to: Toyota Tacoma 1995-2004 Engine Air Filter Replacement

How to change the engine air filter on a 1st generation Toyota Tacoma equipped with a 3.4L V6. A similar procedure is also found on the 3rd generation Toyota 4Runner. Dirty air filters can cause poor fuel economy, poor performance, throttle hesitation and in a severe case poor idling. #toyota #toyotatacoma #toyota4runner

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-new air filter

Procedure:
-open the hood and the engine air filter is located on the left side of the engine bay when you’re facing it, almost behind the headlight
-typically I like to give the top of the air box a wipe down to reduce the risk of any dirt falling inside
-to pop the access hatch up, pull back the spring tabs and then pull the cover up
-the hatch works on a pivot, so flip it back and the air filter is exposed
-simply grab onto the filter, pull it towards the front of the truck slightly and then pull up
-considering we are replacing the filter, you should clean up any debris inside as it may dirty the new filter, not allowing it to last as long
-ensure the old and new filters are the same, the plastic square frame goes to the rear of the air box, and reinstall
-you’ll feel the filter pop into place, make sure it’s all the way down and then it’ll clip in the topside of the air box
-close up the cap, it’ll snap into place and you’re done
