The Dark Side Of Fantasy: Addressing The Issue Of Sexual Violence

Important Note: I want to reiterate again that I am not of the opinion that sexual violence should not be portrayed in fantasy. Many authors handle this topic incredibly well. I also want to mention that it is important to recognize everyone's unique perspective of this topic. Some people will be able to read scenes of sexual violence, and others may want to avoid them entirely. For some they may be triggering, and for others, they may be validating. Both are valid.

Alright guys, buckle up. This is a heavy topic, but it is one that desperately needs more conversation surrounding it. I've mulled on it for months now, and I'm really proud of how it came out. Sexually violent scenes or story elements in fantasy books are so incredibly prevalent, and it needs to be addressed. Should we include this topic in our storytelling? Yes. But HOW it is portrayed matters.
