SONY TC-558 auto-reverse stereo open reel to reel tape deck

Sony TC-558 stereo 4 track tape deck features auto-reverse play and record, has six heads including ferrite and ferrite (F&F) recording and playback heads. Plays at tape speeds 7-1/2 and 3-3/4 inches per second. Frequency response with normal tape is 30Hz-20kHz (+/- 3dB) and 30Hz to 25kHz with a high dynamic, low noise tape (Sony figures). Wow and Flutter 0.05% (at 7-1/2 ips); Dimensions 18.5 wide x 16.75 high x 8.5 deep (inches); weight 45 lb. 14 oz.

This example has some usage marks. As is often the case with this model, the pinch roller does not rock from one side to the other when play is reversed, but nevertheless plays and records very well. Autoreverse is working correctly. Heads are in excellent condition. Pinch roller also excellent. Meters and lights working correctly. The spring loaded reel hold down on the right-hand reel table does not hold the reel securely, so I cut a slot in a neoprene washer to fit between the holder and the reel - this works as intended.
