Hollow Knight: Silksong is a Metroidvania game developed and published by Australian indie studio Team Cherry, released on September 4, 2025, for Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A sequel to Hollow Knight (2017), it follows Hornet, the former princess of Hallownest, who is captured and taken to Pharloom, a mysterious new land filled with interconnected environments, unique enemies, and challenging bosses. Originally planned as DLC, the project grew into a full standalone sequel announced in 2019. Gameplay builds on the original with 2D platforming and combat, but Hornet moves more acrobatically, heals faster, and uses needle-based abilities. A quest system with four categories (Gather, Wayfarer, Hunt, and Grand Hunt) encourages exploration, supported by a journal, while NPCs and quest boards provide objectives. Two new currencies are introduced: Rosaries, which function like Hollow Knight’s Geo but can be strung to avoid loss on death, and Shell Shards, used for crafting and repairing “tools.” Players can also equip crests for customization. Team Cherry confirmed that Silksong is larger than its predecessor, featuring over 200 enemies, 40 bosses, and around 100 benches, with areas like “Greymoor” being among the biggest the studio has ever created.
