Return from Highgrave is a Dark Souls inspired resurrection arc, designed to be played immediately after a total party wipe; bringing fallen heroes back to life in a way that feels like a natural extension of your campaign.

Your players awaken drowning in a river that runs with blood, claw their way onto the shore, and step into Highgrave: a cursed realm between life and death, where time doesn’t move, gravestones bear names with tallies, and dying again carries a fate worse than oblivion.

Guided to the fortress of Last Light and the blind seer Veleda, the party learns the truth: their defeat wasn’t the end… only the next step in their fates.

To return to the living world, they must cross ruined towers, bloodied arenas, and broken bridges toward the Gravelord’s Bloodwell, where resurrection is earned at a terrible price.

I collaborated with AIs to make this. The process involves generating songs in Ilovesong AI with some music genre tags until I think we’ve hit what the OST should sound like. This can take quite a few generations until I’m happy with the emotion and sound of the song, sometimes I talk to Grok about what instruments or music elements we should be using to get the sound “just so”. Then I go ahead and generate the rest of the OST, factoring in how each environment should sound and the campaign’s progression. Afterwards, I grab illustrations from the campaign sourcebook (which my husband and I wrote) to use or think of an artwork to symbolise the story and generate that using Midjourney.
