This New Sega Dreamcast Cable LOOKS AMAZING! Behar Bros Mamba!

There are many people who love the Sega Dreamcast and the library for the system. It had amazing fighting games, and some pretty good sports games, and some kind of mediocre Sonic games. One thing about the Dreamcast, however, is getting good video quality out of it has been a bit of a challenge. The unit outputs RGB video, VGA video, and composite video, and while the last two have been easy to come by, getting RGB out of the Dreamcast has been a bit of a challenge. HD Retrovision has been working on component video cables for a number of years, but people are still waiting. I just received a package from the Behar Bros, And it was something I was not expecting. We have a chance to upgrade the Dreamcast video output thanks to the Behar Bros' Mamba SCART video cable!

For those not familiar with SCART, before HDMI there was a connector called DVI which kind of looked like a cable you would use for computer monitor. DVI only carried video, no audio output. In Europe, SCART took the concept of DVI, added audio to it, and basically made it possible to easily get quality RGB video out of a source.

The Mamba cable seems to have a quality connector on both ends and thick shielding. When we do our full review we will actually open up the connector to take a look at how everything is assembled. Now the Mamba doesn't do any sort of video upscaling at all, but what you do get is 480i and 480p video output for those games that support it. Also, no modern TVs accept SCART, especially outside of Europe. This is where you will want to partner the mamba with something like a RetroTink 5X or 4K to get from the SCART connector to HDMI.

At around $50, why would someone go with the mamba versus something like an inexpensive $20 VGA cable? Well to be honest with you, not every game is compatible with VGA video output. Also, not all upscalers except a VGA input. My RetroTink 5X, for example, does not have a single VGA input. My RetroTink 4K does, but that's a much more expensive piece hardware.

I am really looking forward to testing this out and seeing what it does. Let me know what specific games you would like to see me test!
