After I posted the graduation video for Coco and Puff, I received a few sweet photos from Grits and Waffles’ mom. In fact, I received several photo updates from different adopters that day, and I’ll be sharing them in the near future!

G&W’s mom wrote, “This is why I’m glad you foster,” along with photos of Grits and Waffles being extra cuddly with each other. I loved her twist on my usual line—“This is Why We Foster”—and thought it was very sweet.

When I have two siblings from a litter, I usually adopt them out together. The only two times I separated a pair were GB and his brother Smokey, and Shrimp and Grits. In both cases, one sibling was more compatible with a non-sibling, so I made the decision to adopt them out unconventionally. Looking back, those were some of the best decisions I’ve made for the kittens and the families involved. Grits and Waffles are inseparable, Shrimp and Apollo are a match made in heaven, Baby and Smokey seem very happy, and… I have my GB. Things couldn’t have turned out better. Being family isn’t always about sharing blood. Sometimes it’s about shared experiences, connection, compatibility—and a little bit of fate.

Today, the families of Grits, Waffles, and Shrimp are celebrating their first birthday. Happy Birthday!
