Kai Eckhardt and the Glimpse with Trilok Gurtu

Did you ever notice that the best moments in music are never recorded? Either the tape jams, the batteries run out or someone forgets to press record. There are however, rare exceptions:

In this vintage clip from mid 1990’s you can hear just how much I was influenced by Jaco Pastorius at the time. And while I am channeling my “inner Jaco” - Jaya Deva, a tall Italian gentleman with a Sanskrit name is scat-singing over drum-grooves laid down by a drummer from Mumbai who is channeling a mix of Tony Williams and Palghat Mani Iyer. Add to that the powerful Bulgarian Kaval flute of Theodosii Spassov and the haunting sitar of Ravi Chari - and you were in for a rare treat.
We really had that “unity in diversity” feeling where nothing mattered except staying in the zone.

In my new school I teach my students to always monitor two things: The direction of their destination plus the quality of their experience. Both are important and neither can be allowed to dominate or fall by the wayside. Look at it this way : Every practice session like a tiny life cycle.
You are born, you live and you die. One heart-beat cycle is a microscopic birth, life and death.

Instead of beholding the wonder, we often kill inspiration by dragging ourselves down the street towards a imaginary goal which once reached is immediately replaced by a new one. It’s always a struggle, always a war within and without. When will you be done ?

If you are ready to explore a direction towards a new way of learning, welcome aboard !

The “Time-Engine” school of Music and Life is open to all.
