Описание к видео Horse’s Rule the Field. Grand Canyon’s Red Butte Airfield.

In this presentation, I had taken a slight detour off Highway 64 just south of the Grand Canyon to visit Red Butte Airfield. Grand Canyon’s first airport opening in 1927 as the ‘Scenic Airlines, Inc. and renamed “Grand Canyon Airlines” when the airfield was sold after the Great Depression began in 1929. Operations did finally close when the new airfield opened in Tusayan, Arizona in 1967. The irony of this is; in all the times I have hiked and backpacked in the Grand Canyon the past couple of decades I never knew of this airfield and of its past. It was only just recently when a friend showed me an aerial photograph she had taken with her smartphone and told me about it. Naturally, I made a mental note to visit and it was great with a Leica SL2-S in hand to have finally walked among other relics of Grand Canyon history and when I was there, by all appearances, the airfield is now run by horses.

Some notes when visiting:
*The airfield had been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
*If you do not know anything about horses and livestock leave them alone. This site is within the boundaries of the Kaibab National Forest, ranching and grazing is still allowed.
*When you open a gate to pass, close the gate after you pass. You want to keep the livestock in and away from the forest service roads.
*Eyes are present with signs warning of security cameras and no trespassing posted throughout the buildings. I noted this and so minimized any ventures inside the structures. I suggest you do the same and view at a reasonable distance.
