#5: Moonless Meteor Showers
The Perseid Meteor Shower peaks on the nights of August 12th and 13th. For the best viewing, wait until after midnight and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. Move away from city lights. In the darkest skies, up to 90 meteors per hour can be seen.

The Geminids peak on the nights of Dec. 12 & 13th. In completely dark skies, more than 100 meteors per hour can be seen.

#4: Jupiter and Venus Conjunction
March 1st.
Jupiter and Venus will be in conjunction during the first couple of days of March. The two brightest planets in our sky will be on full display after sunset.

#3. Asteroid Occultation
December 12.
Asteroid (319) Leona will move in front of Betelgeuse, the bright orange star that makes up the shoulder of Orion appearing to make it disappear for about 10 seconds. This will happen on December 12, just after 8 p.m. Only those in extreme south Florida will be able to witness this rare event.

2. Comet ZTF
Early February.
Comet ZTF could be visible to the naked eye in late February and early January. It will make its closest approach to Earth on February 2nd. It will appear as a smudge in the sky. It likely won't be visible to the naked eye if you are around lights. Binoculars or a small telescope will enhance viewing.

1. Ring Of Fire Eclipse
October 14.
On October 14, the moon will move in between the earth and sun. Unlike in 2017 when there was a total solar eclipse across the Americas, the moon won't completely cover the sun. The sun's outer edge of orange will still be seen. Special eclipse glasses will be needed to view and must be worn the entire time.

A total solar eclipse will then be visible in 2024 across the U.S. This is where if in totality, when the moon completely covers up the sun and darkness falls for a few minutes, you can remove your glasses. This eclipse allows us to see the sun's corona and gives us the iconic diamond ring look moments before and after totality.
