Описание к видео San Remo, Italy - Must See Places

San Remo, located on the west coast of Italy in the province of Liguria, is a beautiful town and the capital of the Riviera dei Fiori (Riviera of Flowers). The city is famous for its large flower market, one of the biggest in Europe and definitely worth visiting. San Remo is also well-known for hosting an Italian music festival every spring. The town boasts beautiful gardens, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views. It's the perfect place to spend a day relaxing by the clean sea and sandy beaches with your family.
Things to do and see in San Remo:
The Casino of San Remo has always been one of the town's main attractions. Built in 1905, this enormous white building stands out proudly, enticing those who wish to try their luck. The French architect Eugenio Ferret designed the casino in its current Art-Nouveau style.
If you're in San Remo during the festival dates, the San Remo Music Festival is worth checking out. The competition takes place inside the Ariston Theatre.
La Pigna, which means "The Pinecone", is the oldest part of the city and dates back to the 11th century. This area is known for its narrow streets, covered alleyways, and winding roads that lead up to the gardens and sanctuary at the top of the hill. The district is a labyrinth of secret shortcuts, stacked houses, tunnels, and narrow passages that ultimately lead to the city's highest point, the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Costa.
Madonna della Costa Sanctuary, on the hilltop above La Pigna, can be seen from most places in San Remo and symbolizes the city. A beautiful cobblestone mosaic dating from 1651 leads the way to the sanctuary. The dome atop the sanctuary was erected between 1770 and 1775.
One of the city's landmarks, a witness to the presence of a Russian community in Sanremo, is the Russian Orthodox Church. A church wanted by Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna after she visited Sanremo and was built 30 years after she died in 1913. Busts represent the king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele III, and his wife, Elena of Montenegro, daughter of Nicholas I, in front of the church.
The Gardens of Queen Elena are located on top of the hill above La Pigna. Created in 1890, they are filled with informal clusters of thick trees and idyllic walkways. From there, you will love the breathtaking view of the roofs of the old town and the Gulf of Sanremo.
Near the old port of San Remo is the Fort of Santa Tecla. The fort was used as a prison between 1864 and 1997. After serving as a prison for many years, the building is now undergoing complete renovation and will be repurposed for tourism and cultural activities.
On the northern corner of Piazza Eroi Sanremesi, there are public markets. This covered market is the pulse of San Remo. It offers fruits, vegetables, cheeses, bread, homemade pasta, fish, and wines. Outside, you get (on Thursday and Saturday) a range of clothing and leather for reasonable prices. With many things to do and see in San Remo, it is a trendy tourist city in Italy. Whether you're looking for arts, music or history, the city has something for everyone. With its harbour full of restaurants and cafes, San Remo will be worth visiting if you're looking for a great place to spend a day or two.
