The Crash, a rare novelty of sorts with a total production somewhere below 1,000 watches since its release in 1967, is one of the most prized collector’s items in watchmaking. To say it is having a moment is an understatement, as stars like Tyler the Creator, Timothée Chalamet, and Tom Brady step out with the distinctly shaped stunner on their wrists.

As you can imagine, we are incredibly proud to bring our viewers this exclusive Cartier unboxing. This gold stunner on leather with a glittering diamond-encrusted bezel can be yours today for a very competitive price.
The story of the Cartier Crash’s origins is mixed, depending on who you ask. Many assume the watch, with its bent case shape, was inspired by Salvador Dali's surrealist painting The Persistence of Memory, while others believe it to be a Baignoire Allongée that melted in a car crash. However, if you were to ask Cartier descendant, Francesca Cartier Brickell, the author of The Cartiers: The Untold Story, she would tell you that it was developed in collaboration with designer Rupert Emmerson to look as though it had been a crash, hence the polarizing name.

It features an oval-shaped case pinched on either end, creating that unique Dali-esq aesthetic.

The watch was released in 1967 and is a product of the London Cartier branch. In its earliest years, it is estimated that only a couple dozen examples were made. While the first crash sold for a reported $1,000 (an amount even Cartier admits was too low for the man-hours it took to produce the watch), it now commands well into the six figures on the secondary market. In fact, a 1967 Cartier Crash sold at auction in 2022 for more than $1.65 million.

Cartier has never confirmed the collection’s total production numbers, but it is believed to be fewer than 1,000 watches. Although the watch is still in production today, it is incredibly rare.
