After investigating the success of Knotts Berry Farm's Boomerang and riding the Sea Serpent at Morey's Piers, Hersheypark officials determined that the Vekoma Boomerang would be a perfect fit for the park, opening "The Sidewinder" in May 1991. Over the years, Sidewinder would receive many upgrades, being the first boomerang to be retrofitted with magnetic brakes and received a brand new MK1212 train from Vekoma. It's most recent upgrade would see the ride receive a brand new theme and paint job, themed towards a party being thrown by Hersheypark's Jolly Rancher mascot!
