HORNBY SIR WILLIAM A STANIER FRS SOUND

Magnificent model by Hornby. Certainly worth waiting for. Certainly the best mass produced 'Coronation' so far. Looks good. Runs like a dream. Super-powerful.
Problems - all from assembly in China. This loco's wheels were bathed in oil, which had spread to the treads. Valve gear on one side carelessly fitted resulting in a collision between the connecting rod and the front driver retaining nut on a curve causing motor to stop and deformation in the slidebar & crosshead area - fortunately corrected (with some difficulty). Loco - tender coupling bar in-operable in 'short' position - simply not enough room at the tender end; made new one. Once again, lack of quality control. And why an 8 pin decoder socket? Where are all the wires meant to go?
(If it had been Hornby Sound fitted it would have had a 21 pin socket)! Clearly discrimination against those who require better sound than Hornby's own Sound !
