🏈헬멧보다 '목'을 믿는 미식축구 | NFL 선수 '목'이 굵어야만 하는 이유🏈

NFL에서 목이 가장 굵다는 선수 타케오 스파익스(Takeo Spikes)의
목 둘레는 무려 21인치입니다.
웬만한 걸그룹 맴버 허리보다 굵은데요
타케오 뿐만 아니라 미식축구선수 대부분이
다른 종목 선수들보다 비교가 안 될 정도의
굵은 목을 가지고 있습니다.

그 이유는 짐작되실 것 같은데요

빽빽한 상대 수비진을 뚫고
자신에게 돌진하는 공격수를 넘어뜨리기 위해서
머리가 불가피하게 개입되고
자연스럽게 단련이 되는 것입니다.

하지만 이상하게도
머리를 보호하는 헬멧이 점차 발전하여
그 어느 때보다 단단하고 안전해졌지만
선수들의 목은 점차 커져만 갑니다.

과연 그 이유는 무엇일까요?
왜 선수들은 그 어느 때보다 목을 단련하고 있을까요?
