3 time grammy award winner, 11 studio albums, 7 of them went gold or platinum and top 5 on the US Billboard charts, a plethora of #1 hits, yet when you look at his career in totality, it can’t help but beg the question, “Can you fall off after reaching legendary status in music”. There’s no question T.I was an important artist in rap history, not to mention what he’s done for southern hip hop, Atlanta in particular as one of the pioneers of trap music that was extremely popular from the early 2000s all the way to the mid 2010s. T.I’s artistry has also expanded to acting, hosting and dialogue, making him not only important to the landscape of hip hop, but to urban culture as well. In no way can anyone fix their mouths to say T.I had a disappointing career or didn’t meet expectations, even exceeding them in longevity and social relevance 20+ years in. But if you are on the side of the argument that holds each artist to the standard they set for themselves with their talent, timing, ability to be marketed to multiple markets and opportunity, then I can understand you saying T.I fell off right after his most successful album in his catalogue “Paper Trail”. T.I is still a legend in the game, but even legends could’ve had a better career with the gifts they were given, had certain things not happened. Can You “Fall Off” As a Legend?
