Significant waste generation, high energy consumption, natural environment pollution, and low production are the main descriptions of traditional manufacturing processes and treatment techniques. With the introduction of cleaner production (CP), the quality and quantity of raw materials, energy, production, and wastes have changed. In addition, CP has significantly aided efforts toward sustainable development. Moreover, CP has improved material consumption, reduced energy utilization, and reduced emission levels of pollutants to air, water, and soil. This is the practical method for protecting human and environmental health, and for supporting the goal of green business.

Eng. Samantha Kumarasena is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cleaner Production Centre. He is an experienced Cleaner Production auditor and an Energy auditor. He is a competent Lead Auditor in ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 9001 Quality Management System, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and ISO 50001 Energy Management System. He is in the panel of Assessors for assessing Certification bodies for accreditation for ISO 14001EMS under Sri Lanka Accreditation Board. He is a professional with more than 20 years of experience in advisory, capacity building and performance evaluation of the industries at national and international levels. He is a Visiting lecturer to several universities as well as a resource person in several training institutes in Sri Lanka.
