PLATO'S PHAEDO: Socrates Death Explained | Ancient Greek Philosophy

Описание к видео PLATO'S PHAEDO: Socrates Death Explained | Ancient Greek Philosophy

Plato & Socrates: the most philosophers ever, involved in the most well-known trial in all of Ancient Athens. Plato's book "The Phaedo" is summarised in today's video, discussing Socrates' death (by drinking hemlock) and his views on life and the soul.

After Plato's "Apology" detailing Socrates' trial for allegedly "corrupting the youth" of Athens and "the laws against impiety" (no thanks to Aristophanes' play, "Clouds"), the famous philosopher is found guilty and sentenced to death ... despite being 70 years of age. So really, had they been patient, he probably would have died in a few years anyways? Clearly the ancient Athenian government (recently defeated by Sparta in the Peloponnesian War) needed to make an example of someone, and unfortunately that happened to be Socrates.
