Adjunct faculty Dr. Jessica Saint-Paul thought she qualified for Public Service Loan Forgiveness until she learned at an AFT student debt clinic that none of the payments she had made to Navient, her student loan servicer, would qualify. She agreed to become a plaintiff in AFT’s Navient lawsuit to fight for justice for borrowers who were lied to by Navient. Just this year, Jessica is paying it forward in a big way, working with AFT 1521 to create a focused program to help every AFT 1521 member with student debt get access to Summer and get their loans forgiven by training up student debt stewards on every one of the nine campuses at the Los Angeles Community College District.
