Is Journalism school worth it?

Is a hundred thousand dollars getting and two years spent getting a Masters degree in Journalism worth it? Back in the boom years of the 1990s two year J-School degrees made a certain amount of sense: you'd spend some time at a university, make contacts in the local papers, TV or radio stations and there would be a job waiting for you when you got out. However, with newsrooms across the country laying off staff, and instead relying on cheap freelance labor, it's increasingly important for new journalists to be just as savvy with their business skills as they are with the actual practices of interviewing sources and writing tight copy.

While it's certainly still possible to have a Journalism career after getting a MA, in my opinion, getting the degree is more often a hinderance than a help. This is because most J-schools need a constant stream of tuition-paying students to stay afloat. They also, weirdly, don't generally teach the business side of journalism--so once you get out you don't really understand how to manage a freelance career, pitch stories, or plan out books and other ways that you will grow business.
