Our Carver 43MY has Yanmar 6LY3-ETP engines with ZF-280 transmissions. While doing a pre-departure engine check, I noticed the oil on the transmission dip stick was milky, indicating water was mixed in. I quickly figured out that the transmission oil cooler had failed. This video shows how I drained the transmission, flushed it with Sea Foam and fresh oil, replaced the oil cooler and then flushed it again. I secured the boat in the slip and ran it in gear while checking for leaks. This was my first time doing this kind of repair, and it was fairly easy and straightforward.
