Adriana Lecouvreur's aria "Io son l'umile ancella", from Adriana Lecouvreur, Act I.
Composer: Francesco Cilea (1866-1950).
Libretto: Arturo Colautti (1851-1914).
Premiere: 6 November 1902, Teatro Lirico, Milano.


/Synopsis
Adriana appears. She rejects the flattery and declares herself to be merely the humble servant to the creative genius.
Various scenes of this opera are a play within a play. This is an interesting effect, which already Cilea’s comtemporary Leoncavallo made use of in “Pagliacci”.
