The Golden Spike and the Transcontinental Railroad

Описание к видео The Golden Spike and the Transcontinental Railroad

It was 1869, and two steam locomotives met at Promontory Summit, Utah. A golden spike was ceremoniously driven into the last railway tie. And a huge crowd cheered at the completion of the first Transcontinental railroad! It connected the Central Pacific Railroad from the West with the Union Pacific Railroad from the East. The meeting of these two railroads meant the joining of a continent. And it totally transformed America forever.

Trains touch everyone's life one way or another. My grandfather worked on steam engines in Colorado Springs, CO during the 1940s. He was killed in an explosion while working on trains on April 12, 1943. My brother honors him with his middle name.
