බුද්ධකාලයේ රජගහ නුවර වසංගතයක් පැතුරුනා. රජගහ නුවර එම නගරයේ සිටුතුමා ගේ නිවසෙහි සේවකයෝ මේ රෝගයෙන් මැරීගියා. සිටුතුමා හා සිටු බිරිඳ රෝගය වැළදුනා. ඔවුන් තම තුරුණු පුතාට කතාකර තමන් අතහැර ගොස් කලක් ගිය පසු පමණක් පැමිණෙන්නට උපදෙස් දුන් හ. ධනය නිදන් කර ඇති ස්ථාන පෙන්වා දුන්නා.

සිටු පුතා නගරය හැර ගොස් කැලයේ වසර 12ක් ගත කළේ ය. නැවත ආපසු නගරයට එන විට බොහෝ තරුණ වියට පත්ව සිටි හෙයින්
ඔහුව කිසිවකුට හඳුනා ගත නො හැකි විය. ධනය නිදන්කර ඇති තැන් බලන්නට ගොස් ඒවා සුරක්ෂිතව තිබෙන බව ද දැන ගත් ඔහු මේවා ගොඩ නොගෙන සිටියා. රජතුමා විසින් රාජසන්තක කරන්නට ඉඩ ඇතැයි බියට පත්ව එය භාවිතයට නො ගත්තේ ය. කාලය එනතුරු ඔහු ජීවත් වීමට රැකියාවක් සෙවී ය. ඔහුට ලැබුණ රැකියාව පාන්දරම අවදිවී නගරයෙහි ජනයා අවදි කරවීමට ඝෝෂා කිරීමයි.
