Worn Out Clutch Set Results In Gear Shifting Difficulty

We had this 2011 Toyota Innova, having covered an overall driving mileage of 238k kilometers, visit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop for an annual service along with a concern relating the car’s transmission. The clutch pedal was reportedly very stiff to operate making it difficult to easily shift gears. Overtime the car struggled to accelerate on the 1st gear. With the overall pick up falling drastically and seeking a permanent solution towards the transmission concern, the car owner reached out to us for immediate assistance.

Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, the clutch was observed to be ineffective in transmitting the required torque, thereby the car struggled to accelerate and eventually led to gear shifting difficulty. Upon dismantling the gearbox, the clutch set along with the release bearing was found to be in a bad shape, wherein the clutch friction plate was completely worn out- requiring immediate replacement.

*Function of the Clutch:
- Clutch mechanism is used to both engage and disengage the power transmission from the driving shaft on to the driven shaft, ensuring smooth power transmission to the engine, enabling smooth movement

*Symptoms of weak/failing clutch:
- Engine revs but acceleration is poor
- Buring smell upon acceleration
- Difficulty shifting gears
- Hard to operate clutch pedal
- Noise from clutch pedal

*Solution:
- The gearbox was dismantled and the old clutch set was removed
- The worn out clutch set was replaced with a new Toyota Genuine clutch set along with replacement of the clutch release bearing
- New transmission oil was filled
- Annual service was performed
