This is a well-made product
Just got this yesterday - haven't used it yet but I give it five stars on the basis of design and the quality of materials and assembly. I can't see how you would bend the handles - were these users trying to rice uncooked potatoes? Or squeeze it closed beyond the stop? And how did they manage that anyway? Must be a way stronger he-man than me to bend these handles with hand pressure. The complaints about the hinge pin falling out are also unfounded. As others have pointed out; the pin has been flattened at one end to line up with a slot in the ricer sides. Line the pin up through the slot, give it a twist, and everything is secure - twist back to line up with the slot for disassembly. It is an old (classic?) but effective design to hold in a pin or axle. I'll update this review when I have actually riced some potatoes but I don't expect that experience will change my assessment. OK, I riced both potatoes & sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving and this thing works as advertised. Easy clean-up, too.
