Looking for the Kinderlow Cavern.

Описание к видео Looking for the Kinderlow Cavern.

In this video I wanted to explore an area marked on the OS map as "Kinderlow Cavern"
I do find maps fascinating, and some of the names conjure into your mind all sorts of imaginings as to how they were derived - who was the mad woman of Mad Womans Stone, is Druids Stone the scene of some ancient ritual?
Kinderlow Cavern would seem to be a whole lot simpler - surely there is a cave with this name, there are many fine examples in the area...
Not so - legend has it that game wardens blew it up to stop people trespassing on the land which had been inaccessible for the best part of two centuries due to the 18th century wealthy landowners preventing people from entering the land - something they had always been able to do for millennia.

I am grateful for the information in the New Mills website at https://www.stevelewis.me.uk/, in particular the three pages concerning Kinder Scout, which you will find on the left hand menu.

I parked in the lovely village of Hayfield and followed the pack horse route up onto Kinder. I had been told that the final ascent onto the end of Kinder Low was extremely steep and once I saw just how steep it was, I continued on the pack horse route up to Edale Cross. From there it was just a short but steep climb onto Swines Back where I found the most perfect camp spot with three hundred and sixty degree views of the Edale Vale, Kinder Scout and beyond.

As usual I had some new gear to try out, a four season inner for my 3fULgear Lanshan 2 and a Sea to Summit air chair which was very comfortable.
