(Class 4) SSDC Class 4 Lesson 3 Recap (Part 1/2)

Narrow Courses (Part 1/2)
1. Slope
Signal Left, Mirror and Blind Spot Left (MBSL).
Turn onto slope (accelerate a little).
Stop at stop line (Make sure cannot see stop line from driver position).
Step on clutch and foot brake.
Engage hand brake (pull up fully).
Release foot brake slowly (if roll back, step again immediately).
Step on accelerator, rev engine until 1.9 rev/min. Right foot stay in place.
Release left foot, let clutch engage.
Rev/min dropped. Continue to release left foot until rev/min dropped until 1 rev/min. Left foot stay in place.
Signal Right, Mirror and Blind Spot Right (MBSR).
Release hand brake, lorry start moving.
Lorry move up slope and onto the plateau (flat surface).
Both feet on floor board.
Let engine move by itself and downslope using engine brake.
Check make sure no traffic on both lanes. If yes, clutch in and foot brake to stop at give way line. If no traffic, MSBR and exit. Watch for chevron marking on floor.

2. V course
Signal Left, MBSL.
Enter course in Gear 2, use clutch control, no need to use accelerator (foot off accelerator but be ready to use foot brake if needed. Best is to use clutch to control all).
Start turning once kerb on left past the shoulder.
Keep left signal on and keep to left of V course when entering.
Once shoulder past the kerb on right side, stop vehicle.
Signal Right, MBSR.
Turn steering wheel 2 rounds.
Front (or dashboard) align with kerb in front, straighten back fast.
Move forward until cannot see kerb in front + move a bit more forward then stop.
Signal left, check both mirrors, turn body and head to left to check behind.
Engage reverse gear, no need to turn steering wheel.
Move until you can see the kerb in front and tar road (shoulder should be close to kerb on the right, but make sure don't past the shoulder then stop.
Signal right. MBSR.
Engage Gear 2, release clutch, move forward then turn steering wheel to right, NO NEED full lock (3 rounds). Watch right mirror for right rear wheel.
Keep to right side of V course when exiting
Stop at line. Watch for traffic from 3 sides. Make sure all clear, especially coming from left, check using the rear window panel, turn head and see through to make sure that side is clear.
Signal left, MBSL.
Release clutch, move forward. Straighten vehicle and move forward until cover lane divider.
Start turning left, again NO NEED full lock. Watch left mirror. Make sure left rear wheel clear the exiting kerb.
Once left rear wheel clear exiting kerb, turn some more to get back to lane.
