Yeah, I know it seems kind of silly buying a 3 jaw chuck when one comes with the lathe. But an ADJUSTABLE 3 jaw chuck seems to make a whole lot of sense to me. With the standard 3 jaw chuck, whatever runout you get is what you are stuck with when you want to work with it. But with the adjustable chuck, well, the runout can be whatever you are willing to accept, based on how much time you put into adjusting it. So this will be the chuck that will be on my lathe likely 95 percent of the time.

I videoed the opening of the boxes, as it comes in two pieces. One box with the back plate, and the other box with the chuck itself. The bolts to mount the chuck to the back plate will be in the chuck's box, underneath the chuck. The backplate already has the D1-4 camlock lugs installed, however mine were a single turn in too far and had to be adjusted in order to mount on the spindle nose. No big deal, except I think Hercules tightened down those bolts securing the camlock lugs.

All in all this looks like a really great, precision piece of equipment. I was able to get it, at one point, with pretty nearly zero runout. Yeah, to get that close of tolerance every workpiece you put into the chuck will have to be adjusted, but heck, that will be up to you as to how accurate you want it to be. At the very least, the potential is there for very precise accuracy.
