Precision Matthews 5C D1-4 and ER40 D1-4 chucks runout adjustments [4K/60fps]

I already had these chucks from nameless Chinese sellers, but I just WANTED these offerings from Precision Matthews, figuring the adjustable nature of them would be pretty handy.

I started with the 5C chuck, and to be honest, I had a tough time with it. After fiddling with it for at least an hour, I gave up and then tried the ER40 chuck. That one went like clockwork, and without 5 minutes I had it dialed in as perfectly as I could reasonably expect.

I talked to one of the tech guys at PM, and he suggested that I rotate the 5C chuck on the spindle face, so heck I went back to it and gave that a try. Sure enough, within 10 minutes I had the runout down to under a half a thousandth, and stopped there rather than trying to make it any better than that. I'm just a hobbyist, so this was certainly good enough for me.

I haven't actually checked the runout with a collet and test piece in place, but I'm guessing that they will be just fine.Yeah, I didn't really NEED those chucks, but heck, they just look really spiffy on the lathe with the Precision Matthews engraving on them. :)

Although I had some doubts with my first swipe at adjusting the 5C chuck, I'm actually quite pleased with how both of these turned out.
