Large-scale Rescue Operation for Vehicle into Canyon off of the I-805

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 7-20-24 5:55 am
LOCATION: NB I-805 S/0 La Jolla Village Dr/Miramar Rd
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:
The witnesses told the CHP that the female driver was speeding north on the freeway when she passed them.
They said she suddenly drifted to the right and left the freeway.
The car went into a canyon and flipped but landed on its wheels.
The witnesses stopped to try and help the young female, but she was trapped and injured.
Firefighters arrived and called in extra resources to try and free the victim.
The firefighters had to cut the roof off of the car to extricate her.
The female suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
She told the firefighters that she had fallen asleep, which was the reason for the crash.
Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.
