Marvel’s Dr. Nathaniel Essex was a genius beyond doubt. He was a regular family man who was passionate about the science of evolution and the future possibility of the existence of mutants. A very regular biologist, indeed.
Okay, maybe(?) not so regular. But only one of those things drove him to his ‘crazy, madman’ label though, and there are no brownie points for guessing that correctly.
But that realization dawns upon the reader only when Essex openly admits to “not mind becoming a monster for science’s progress”. The family he had – a wife pregnant with his second child, a first child he had lost; all of these took a back seat. Our villain here decided that nothing except ‘science not bound by moral turpitudes’ was worth his attention.
