We embarked on a flavorful non-vegetarian tour through Lucknow’s vibrant streets with our friends Nabeel and Sarah.

Our first stop was Sharif Irani Chai in Hussainabad. We enjoyed a creamy Irani chai, served in traditional kulhads. This rich, aromatic tea is a local favorite, though we found it a bit too sweet for our taste.

Next, we visited Taba Tabhai, known for its shawarma. This lively spot, popular with a youthful crowd, featured marinated chicken roasting on a horizontal rotisserie. The shawarma packed with juicy chicken, French fries and garlic spread, was a true delight.

Our third stop was Nayab's Haleem, where we tasted this renowned Hyderabadi dish alongside khichda. The haleem had a rich, thick texture and the spices elevated it flavours. However, the garnish of nuts added a touch of elegance.

At Kebabchi, we were greeted by a passionate young owner who shared his deep knowledge of Lucknow cuisine. We sampled chicken sambal kebab, chicken lagan, and ulte tawa ka paratha, each dish reflecting the essence of Lucknow’s culinary tradition.

Our fifth stop was Idrees ki Biryani, a legendary spot famous for its traditional biryani. The genial owner welcomed us warmly, and the biryani, with its robust flavors, lived up to its storied reputation.

Kareem Kababi was our sixth stop, where we discovered their famed bun kebab. The soft, fresh bun filled with perfectly spiced minced meat was a standout.

We then enjoyed a refreshing break at Barkat Sweets, sipping pink Kashmiri chai before indulging in some rabri from the adjacent Pahalwan Malaiwale shop, which proved to be a satisfying treat.

Our final stop was Daud Besan Ki Roti, where we sampled crispy, spicy flatbread made with gram flour, onions, chillies, and spices.

We wrapped up the day with a traditional paan, completing an unforgettable tour of Lucknow’s rich food heritage.
