Hel Shotgun // Heavy Assault Rifle // Mine Deployer
Sawed-Off // Hel Rifle // Burst Sentry
Game version: R8 Patch-2024-03-07

Interesting mission generally, but doing the opening stealth repeatedly gets a little draining. We were bringing PDW at first, to help with the shadows and general stealth, but we decided it was better just to have stronger waveclear power, so we dropped it. Hel Rifle is chosen primarily for the blood door with the millions of giants, but to be honest we're unsure whether it's worth it. It might have been better just to bring a second waveclear gun for stronger capabilities during the rest of the warden protocol, and just deal with the giants normally.

Annoyingly, this mission has a pretty large amount of RNG involved with regards to how difficult it is.

First: It's RNG whether an explosive tripmine spawns in the first zone. If one does spawn, the subsequent blood door is trivial; if not, you gotta hammer a bunch of stuff. It's not run ending or anything, but it does likely mean that you'll have fewer meds to spare for blunders.

Second: Both of the overload uplinks have one terminal spot that's notably harder than the rest, in that they split you up from your teammate, and prevent you from permafoaming (if you have c-foam). In the first, it's the terminal in area A rather than B, which is the one we get here. On this run in particular simultaneously defending it and reading codes ended up being rather pleasant, but still. For the second uplink, it's the terminal that's in area A, and this one is much worse, because the level geometry is tough (it's right next to a ladder, and on a hill), because the waves could path to either player, and because a snatcher will be spawning along with the waves (unless you do this uplink first).

Third: Resource spawns are of course RNG, and have a pretty sizable impact in how difficult the warden protocol w/ overload is. Sometimes all the ammo will spawn totally out of the way, or split up into small uses. On this run we have really good luck here - I get ammo in the first warden protocol zone, we get a x6 ammo in the giant blood door zone, and then in the second uplink we have like all the resources right next to us (two tool refills, two ammopacks, and meds to top it all off).

We kinda blunder the supply run stealth a bunch so it's scuffed, but we still end up waiting afk for the door to open so it works out (aside from us starting the warden protocol with a little less ammo than usual).

Playing the word guessing game in secondary is fun tho

i guess for overload we try to ping and get the ammo in the first overload zone. in the first uplink zone, sometimes the ammo spawns deep inside the really vertical labyrinthian detour rooms in the back of the zone. like, those rooms are unique tilesets, we ran around there in the darkness and had no idea where to go. if ammo is there i think it might not be worth going for even if you need ammo, it's prob better just to go to the second uplink zone and try to find ammo there (and make it last).

also there's weird side zones. i know there's one side zone during the main part of warden protocol, which is just like a ton of rooms. I guess the idea is that you could use all those doors mine the waves, and then run out once the warden protocol progresses?

but the really confusing thing to me is the zone accessed from the first overload uplink terminal zone, where you go all the way deep into area E or smth, go upstairs, there's a small SEC door you can just open. We went there once out of desperation, and it seemed like a single room, dead end, no supplies or anything, but with a unique tileset????

looking at maps, one map labels it zone 331, another labels it zone 330. looks like there's more than one room. if anyone has an idea what the point of this room is, let me know. i'm guessing there's a lore log or something inside?

Only two missions remain, R5E1 and R8E2.
